Tempolight Lite

Music-reactive lights without a computer

An ESP32 with a microphone listens for the kick, the tempo, the build-up and the drop, and drives your WLED lights with Tempolight effects on its own. This installs WLED with AudioReactive and the Tempolight usermod.

Install

Plug the ESP32 into this computer with a USB data cable, then press the button. Works in Chrome and Edge on a computer (Web Serial). Installing erases the board: copy your WLED settings first if it already runs WLED (Config → Security & Updates → Backup).

This browser can't flash boards: use Chrome or Edge on a computer. Open this page over https (or from localhost) to flash.

Classic ESP32 boards (ESP32-WROOM / esp32dev, 4 MB flash). Already on WLED 16? Download tempolight-lite-esp32-update.bin from the release and use WLED's own Config → Security & Updates → Manual OTA update instead; your settings stay.

LEDs: data on GPIO 16 (WLED's default; change it in Config → LED Preferences). Other pins can be chosen in Config → Usermods → AudioReactive.

After flashing

  1. Set up Wi-Fi: the installer may offer it right after flashing, or join the WLED-AP network (password wled1234) and follow WLED's setup page.
  2. Set your LEDs in Config → LED Preferences.
  3. Pick the effect TL Auto: it follows the music, calm → build-up → drop. The other TL effects stay on one look.
  4. Tempolight Lite shows in Info with its tempo and song part, and an on/off button.

What Lite can and can't do, compared with the full app: docs/tempolight-lite.md. Drop Strobe flashes at most 3 times a second; tick "No flashes" on any effect to turn flashes off.
